A four year degree in environmental health is a good start. Accreditation indicates an academic program has been found to have the curriculum, faculty, facilities, and institutional support necessary to provide quality environmental health education.

Earning your degree from an accredited environmental health degree program is not just a smart choice, it is also an essential requirement for some federal jobs. For example, only students from accredited programs are eligible to participate in the Commission Officer Student Extern Training Program (COSTEP) of the U. S. Public Health Service. Graduation from an accredited program is also a requirement to enter the US Public Health Service. Many states recognize graduation from an accredited program as attaining a specific standard needed to become a registered environmental health specialists or sanitarian.
