Drinking and
Ground Water Specialists
 

These water specialists examine water sources, such as reservoirs and aquifers, large underground lakes, to guarantee that the water we drink is safe and clean. In addition to monitoring the quality of the water they also manage threats that could potentially jeopardize the future of the water. These threats include; leaks from ineffective landfills or hazardous waste storage sites and point and non-point pollution sources. Another important responsibility is the oversight of water treatment plants.

Responsibilities Often Include:
• Testing water and aquatic life
• Investigating causes of elevated pollutant levels
• Enforcing regulations
• Issuing permits
• Reviewing and implementing technical standards
• Educating the public about water quality
• Performing inspections
