Food Safety Specialist
 

A food safety specialist is concerned with preventing the spread of food borne illness. They work with food producers, processors and distributors to ensure the food we eat is safe. An important part of a food safety specialist’s job is performing inspections of facilities such as restaurants and grocery stores. Additionally, food safety specialists educate the public about preventing food borne illnesses due to improper storage, cooking or cross contamination.

Responsibilities Often Include:
• Issuing licenses to food producers and distributors
• Inspecting equipment
• Testing food
• Inspecting restaurants
• Educating food service workers
• Investigating complaints or food borne illness outbreaks
