Industrial Hygienist
 

An industrial hygienist works to prevent sickness or injury due to factors associated with the workplace by examining the work environment, identifying potential hazards, and making recommendations for a safer, healthier place of employment. Workplace hazards include; unsafe practices, poor ventilation, inadequate lighting, and lack of emergency procedures. Improvements recommended by industrial hygienist often lead to happier employees with higher productivity levels, and therefore are integral parts of the economy.

Responsibilities Often Include:
• Inspecting work environments
• Recommending precautionary measures
• Enforcing codes set forth by the Occupational Health and Safety Agency and other pertinent regulations
• Testing air and building materials for harmful substances
• Conducting research
• Creating protocol for workplace accidents or emergencies
• Responding to complaints
